This is where Basic Needs Group 5 is to post their discussion about Module 10 Assignment.

1) What role do families' basic needs play in the overall quality of life ?

1) Each family’s basic needs differ from each other. Some family may not access to health care or may have problems fulfilling their food needs, while other family may live in an unhealthy and dangerous environment but have access to health care. Some families may not have the proper type of shelter which may lead to the child having problems completing their homework. If a student's basic needs are not met in their household, the student may not be able to concentrate in his/her studies and in the classroom. Some families also lack in family interaction, which can affect the communication between the parents and the child and also between the teachers. When there is no proper communication between the teacher and the parents, the teacher may not be able to assist the students with his/her studies and achieve his/her academic goals. If there is also a lack of communication between the parents and the child, the parents may not be able to understand any problems what their child is going through and not will able to help them. In conclusion, if a child's basic needs are not initially met in their household (ex. food, shelter) their overall performance in school will eventually lead to a downfall.

2) How do systems, and professionals within systems, support families in ways to build trust?

1) The professionals can help build a family’s trust by paying attention to their needs and problems and also by respecting the family. The professionals can gain the families’ trust by first understanding the family and how much help and support they need. The professionals should give the parents access to information so they can help each other and learn more. Communication is also a way professionals can gain trust within families. When a professional remains open and truthful with a family, it allows that family to trust the professional. The professionals should continue to communicate with the families and give them emotional support when needed.communication.jpg.

2) How do systems, and professionals within systems, support families in ways to build trust?
You can cultivate trusting partnerships with families and address their basis, unmet needs by (1) accessing social-emotional support, (2) accessing information, (3) accessing economic support, and (4) accessing support to address violence or neglect in the home. Social support refers to a source of comfort found within group and individual relationships. Emotional support refers to caring, encouraging, and understanding found within group and individual relationships. Social and emotional supports reduce families’ stress and improve emotional well-being. Increased access to these supports often leads to greater satisfaction with parenting and increased positive interactions with children. Another ways to built families trust are by showing respect [honor cultural diversity], communication [provide and coordinate information], equality [foster empowerment], and advocacy [keep your conscience primed].
